Types of Roofing Styles

There are several styles of roofing and each one of them is designed to meet certain needs. Hip roof, flat roof and gabled roof are some of the styles commonly used by homeowners.  It is important to consider several factors before choosing a style like cost of roof, your taste, ease of maintenance and installation.  Understanding the pros and cons of each style can help you to pick the right roofing style.

The hip roof is the perfect choice if you are living in an area that is more prone to heavy snowfall, hurricanes and extreme heat.  It slopes down to the eaves on all the four sides, so it helps to prevent sun and rainfall from entering the home. It spreads the weight of the roof evenly throughout the length and width of your home, so it can remain unaffected by heavy winds. It is little bit expensive and requires proper maintenance. If you are concerned about improving the appearance of your home, you can go for this style.

A gable roof is much simpler to install, so it saves much of your time. It costs less than several other styles.  It is suitable for varied climatic conditions like rain and snow, as the rainwater, debris and snow can simply fall down along its slopes. It is however not a right choice, if you are living in an area that is susceptible to high winds and tornadoes.

A flat roof is the cheapest style and is easily accessible. There is less chance of falling if you want to inspect the roof. It is very attractive on any style of homes. However, it needs proper maintenance. You need to keep it free from water and debris. Insufficient maintenance can lead to leaks in the roof.

No matter what style of roof a homeowner chooses, it is best left up to a professional roofing contractor for the ordering and installation process.
