A metal roof will cost roughly twice as much as a three tab asphalt shingle roof. A wood shake roof typically costs somewhere between an architectural shingle roof and a metal roof. Tile roofs are a little more expensive than comparable metal roofs and slate roofs are even more expensive yet. Keep in mind that an asphalt shingle roof will only last half as long or less than these other types of roofing materials.
